Ellinikos Georgikos Organismos Dimitra (ELGO) - Hellenic Agricultural Organization ‘DIMITRA’
The ELGO team has a long experience on honeybee biology and practical beekeeping aspects. The Department of Apiculture is one of 27 research units belonging to ELGO. Its mission is the basic and applied research in topics such as: Biology and physiology of bees, development of new technologies in beekeeping, honeybee conservation initiatives, enhancement of the role of bees in pollination services, fight diseases with new environmental and biotechnological products, breeding and improvement of genetic material and finally the effects of pollutants (pesticides, heavy metals, beekeeping medicaments) on honey bee biology, physiology, and behavior. ELGO brings expertise in honeybee breeding; monitoring and colony performance testing; evaluation of disease resistance characters; coordination of National breeders’ association; close cooperation with national and international beekeeper and breeder associations; honeybee risk assessment methodology.

Dr Fani Hatjina
Biologist, Senior Researcher (Researcher A’), Director of the Institute of Animal Science and Department of Apiculture.
Role in ETAIN: Leader of the ELGO team, responsible for the lab and field experiments regarding the effect of HMF on honey bees (welfare and physiology) and solitary bees (development and reproduction).

Dr Leonidas Charistos
Agronomist, Researcher C’, Department of Apiculture.
Role in ETAIN: Team member, responsible for monitoring the welfare of honeybees during the field experiments.

External collaborator and Phd candidate on the effects of HMF on honey bees and solitary bees.
Role in ETAIN: Responsible for all sampling and lab experimentations.
